Evaluating the arsenic attenuation of soil amended with calcium–magnesium composites of different particle sizes

چکیده

An attenuation layer composed of ground mixed with stabilising agents can prevent the contamination surrounding area when using soils and rocks geogenic contaminants in embankments. The optimum particle size agent must be selected based on requirements construction site because mechanical chemical properties are site-specific. However, relationship between performance soil–agent mixtures has yet to fully clarified. This study employs batch sorption tests evaluate arsenic by a soil calcium–magnesium composite different sizes, ranging from powder particles (<0.075 mm size) granular diameters 2.0 9.5 mm. Amended more effectively attenuates contaminant than original soil. In one experiment, (between mm) for amendment increased soil’s partition coefficient Kd 14.5 22.2 cm3/g, which is 50% improvement attenuation. Using smaller greater impact. increases linearly as decreases down 0.075 laboratory tests, simulations one-dimensional advection–dispersion equation demonstrate durability layer. Both show promise materials.

Carbon mineralization in two ultisols amended with different sources and particle sizes of pyrolyzed biochar.

Biochar produced during pyrolysis has the potential to enhance soil fertility and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The influence of biochar properties (e.g., particle size) on both short- and long-term carbon (C) mineralization of biochar remains unclear. There is minimal information on the potential effects of biochar particle sizes on their breakdowns by soil microorganism, so it is unknown i...

Adsorption of arsenic on soil under different soil moisture conditions

The adsorption study was conducted on three Japanese soils with different soil properties to characterize the adsorption pattern of Arsenic (As). Double tube method was used to find out the effect of soil moisture levels on As adsorption. For this study, besides double tube method, conventional batch method also was used. The As adsorption showed two phase kinetics. An initial and rapid adsorpt...
